9 “Then I will purify the lips of the peoples,

3:11 그 날에 네가 내게 범죄한 모든 행위로 말미암아 수치를 당하지 아니할 것은 그 때에 내가 네 가운데서 교만하여 자랑하는 자들을 제하여 네가 나의 성산에서 다시는 교만하지 않게 할 것임이라
11 On that day you, Jerusalem, will not be put to shame
for all the wrongs you have done to me,
because I will remove from you
your arrogant boasters.
Never again will you be haughty
on my holy hill.
3:12 내가 곤고하고 가난한 백성을 네 가운데에 남겨 두리니 그들이 여호와의 이름을 의탁하여 보호를 받을지라
12 But I will leave within you
the meek and humble.
The remnant of Israel
will trust in the name of the Lord.
3:13 이스라엘의 남은 자는 악을 행하지 아니하며 거짓을 말하지 아니하며 입에 거짓된 혀가 없으며 먹고 누울지라도 그들을 두렵게 할 자가 없으리라
13 They will do no wrong;
they will tell no lies.
A deceitful tongue
will not be found in their mouths.
They will eat and lie down
and no one will make them afraid.”
3:14 시온의 딸아 노래할지어다 이스라엘아 기쁘게 부를지어다 예루살렘 딸아 전심으로 기뻐하며 즐거워할지어다
14 Sing, Daughter Zion;
shout aloud, Israel!
Be glad and rejoice with all your heart,
Daughter Jerusalem!
3:15 여호와가 네 형벌을 제거하였고 네 원수를 쫓아냈으며 이스라엘 왕 여호와가 네 가운데 계시니 네가 다시는 화를 당할까 두려워하지 아니할 것이라
15 The Lord has taken away your punishment,
he has turned back your enemy.
The Lord, the King of Israel, is with you;
never again will you fear any harm.
3:16 그 날에 사람이 예루살렘에 이르기를 두려워하지 말라 시온아 네 손을 늘어뜨리지 말라
16 On that day
they will say to Jerusalem,
“Do not fear, Zion;
do not let your hands hang limp.
3:17 너의 하나님 여호와가 너의 가운데에 계시니 그는 구원을 베푸실 전능자이시라 그가 너로 말미암아 기쁨을 이기지 못하시며 너를 잠잠히 사랑하시며 너로 말미암아 즐거이 부르며 기뻐하시리라 하리라
17 The Lord your God is with you,
the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing.”
3:18 내가 절기로 말미암아 근심하는 자들을 모으리니 그들은 네게 속한 자라 그들에게 지워진 짐이 치욕이 되었느니라
18 “I will remove from you
all who mourn over the loss of your appointed festivals,
which is a burden and reproach for you.
3:19 그 때에 내가 너를 괴롭게 하는 자를 다 벌하고 저는 자를 구원하며 쫓겨난 자를 모으며 온 세상에서 수욕 받는 자에게 칭찬과 명성을 얻게 하리라
19 At that time I will deal
with all who oppressed you.
I will rescue the lame;
I will gather the exiles.
I will give them praise and honor
in every land where they have suffered shame.
3:20 내가 그 때에 너희를 이끌고 그 때에 너희를 모을지라 내가 너희 목전에서 너희의 사로잡힘을 돌이킬 때에 너희에게 천하 만민 가운데서 명성과 칭찬을 얻게 하리라 나 여호와의 말이니라
20 At that time I will gather you;
at that time I will bring you home.
I will give you honor and praise
among all the peoples of the earth
when I restore your fortunes[e]
before your very eyes,”
says the Lord.
여호와의 날, 예수님이 다시 오실 그 날…… 기대되시나요? 기다리고 게신가요? 아멘!
하지만 때로는 현재의 상태를 벗어나고 싶어서 주님의 날을 간절히 기다리는 것이 아닌가 생각해 봅니다. 하나님, 더 이상 bill 내고 싶지 않아요. 하나님, 더 이상 학교에 가고 싶지 않아요. 하나님, 더 이상 싸우고 싶지 않아요. 그냥 주님 오셔서 더 이상 아무 것도 하지 않아도 되게 해 주세요. 왜 우리는 이렇게 생각할까요? 때로는 우리는 세상과 너무 많이 싸워서 지쳐버리기도 해서 그렇습니다.
권투를 해 본 적이 있나요? 저는 고등학교 때 길거리에서 권투를 해 봤습니다. 처음으로 권투를 할 때 제가 어떻게 한지가 기억이 납니다? 제 머리를 숙이고 상대를 보지도 않고 그냥 휘둥그레하게 펀치를 날렸습니다. 몇 번 맞았는지도 모르겠어요. 제 머리를 숙이고 있었으니까 전혀 모르죠. 정말 잘하는 권투 선수들을 보면 무엇을 하나요? 예를 들면, Manny Pacquiao (키 5피트 5인치, 146파운드) , Floyd Mayweather (키 5피트 8인치, 148파운드). 두 선수는 모두 아주 작지만 훌륭한 권투 선수로 평가됩니다. 그들은 펀치를 피하려고 발끝에 올라서 움직이곤 했습니다. 특히 Mayweather의 경기를 볼 때 가끔 짜증이 날 정도로 펀치를 너무 많이 피합니다. 그러나 그는 펀치를 피하고 필요할 때 펀치를 날릴 수 있는 최고의 선수였습니다. 그래서 그는 50전 전승, 0패로 무패의 기록을 세웠습니다.
Do we really long for the Day of the Lord? Amen!
But sometimes I think we are longing for the Day of the Lord because we don’t want to be in this current state. God, I don’t want to pay for bills anymore. God, I don’t want to go to school anymore. God, I don’t want to fight anymore. Can you just return so that I don’t have to do anything anymore? Why do we think like this? Sometimes we are fighting so much with the world that we get exhausted fighting.
Did you ever box before? I street boxed when I was in high school. I remember when I boxed for the first time. Do you know what I did? I put my head down. I wasn’t even looking at my opponent. And I just started swinging, throwing hooks, jabs, haymakers. Did I connect on some of them? I don’t even know. I had my head down so I have no idea. When you look at really good boxers, what do they do? For example, Manny Pacquiao who is 5’5” 146 pounds and Floyd Mayweather who is 5’8” 148 pounds. They would be considered both very small but excellent boxers. They kept moving on their toes to dodge punches. Especially Mayweather. Sometimes when you watched his fights, it would be very annoying because he would dodge punches way too much. But he was the best at dodging punches and throwing punches when he needed to. That’s why he was undefeated going 50 win and 0 losses.
우리는 기독교인으로서 세상과 Mayweather처럼 싸워야 합니다. 이게 무슨 말이냐면, 언젠가는 예수님이 다시 오실 것입니다. 그리고 우리는 예수 그리스도의 재림을 준비하며 살아가야 합니다. 그러나 종종 우리는 예수님이 돌아오실 것을 잊고 사는 법을 잊어버립니다. 눈을 감고 세상에 펀치를 휘두르며 살아가곤 합니다. 그러다가 너무 지치고 세상과 타협을 하기 시작합니다.
우리가 스바니아 1장부터 3:8절까지 보았듯이 심판이 있을 것입니다. 그러나 오늘 본문에 따르면 기쁨과 회복이 있을 것입니다. 이것이 주님의 우리에 대한 궁극적인 (ultimate) 목적입니다. 다시 말하자면 우리에 대한 하나님의 비전은 구원, 회복, 그리고 우리와 영원히 함께 하는 것입니다 (교제).
오늘 본무에는 두 가지 포인트가 있습니다.
As Christians, we need to box with the world like Floyd Mayweather. What do I mean by this? Some time in the future, Jesus will return. And we need to live our lives preparing for the return of Jesus Christ. But often, we live forgetting the fact that Jesus will return. We live by closing our eyes and swinging punches at the world. Then we get tired and exhausted from trying too hard.
There will be judgement as we saw on Zephaniah Chapters 1 through 3:8. However as we just read today’s scriptures, there will be joy and restoration. This is our Lord’s ultimate purpose for us. It is deliverance, restoration, and joyful fellowship with us.
Through todays’ verses, there are two major points.
주님의 회복 계획 속에서 기뻐하라!
첫 번째 포인트는 주님의 비전안에서 기뻐해야 한다는 것입니다. 오늘의 구절들은 주님이 특정하고 구체적인 행동으로 가득한 미래의 예언적인 비전입니다. 오늘의 본문에 나오는 몇 가지 단어는 정화, 제거, 떠나다, 구원, 기쁨, 네 눈 앞에서 복원하다 등입니다. 이들 행동은 주님의 미래에 대한 구체적인 계획의 일부입니다. 심판이 있을 것입니다. 그러나 회복과 변화도 있을 것입니다. 수치스러운 자들과 고집 센 사람들(3:11)은 제거될 것이다. 남아 있는 자는 겸손하며 주님의 이름을 부르는 자들(3:12)이다. 이들은 하나님 앞에서 의로우며 진실하며 두려움 없이 살 것입니다(3:13). 하나님의 백성들은 기쁨으로 노래하며 그들에 대한 심판이 제거될 것입니다(3:14-15). 우리는 기뻐하며 누가 또 함께 기뻐할 것인가요? 본문에 따르면 하나님이 너로 말미암아 즐거이 부르며 기뻐하시리라 하리라.
이런 관개를 하나님은 회복 하시길 원하신다는 것입니다. 우리만 기뻐하는 것이 아니라 하나님이 우리와 함께 기뻐하신 다는 것입니다. 이것이 하나님의 마음입니다.
스펄전은 하나님의 기쁨에 관해 다음과 같이 쓰고 있습니다.
"여호와의 노래를 상상해 보십시오! 그것을 상상할 수 있나요? 하나님이 노래하며 기뻐하고 있는 것을 생각해 볼 수 있을까요? 아버지, 아들, 성령이 함께 소리치며 구원받은 자들 위에서 노래하는 것을 상상할 수 있을까요? 하나님은 백성에 대한 사랑에서 너무 행복하여 영원한 침묵을 깨고, 태양과 달, 별들도 놀라움 속에서 하나님이 기쁨의 찬송을 부르는 것을 듣습니다."
Rejoice in the Lord’s plan of restoration!
First point is to rejoice in the Lord’s plan of restoration. Today’s verses are a prophetic vision of the future filled with specific definite acts that the Lord will do. Some words that appear in today’s text include purify, remove, leave, save, rejoice, restore your fortunes before your very eyes. These actions are part of the Lord’s specific plan for the future. This is what He is going to do. There will be judgement. But there will also be restoration and transformation. Shame will be removed as will be proud rebellious people (3:11). The remnant will be those who are humble and call of the name of the Lord (3:12). These people will be just, truthful, and fearless in God’s presence (3:13). God’s people will be a rejoicing, singing people, and judgments against them will be taken away (3:14-15). We will be rejoicing and who else will be rejoicing according to verse 17? God will rejoice over you with singing. This is the relationship that God wants to restore for us. Not only will we be rejoicing when we are with God but God will also be rejoicing when we are with Him. This is the heart of our Father.
Spurgeon wrote this regarding the rejoicing of God.
“Think of the great Jehovah singing! Can you imagine it? Is it possible to conceive of the Deity breaking into a song: Father, Son and Holy Ghost together singing over the redeemed? God is so happy in the love which he bears to his people that he breaks the eternal silence, and sun and moon and stars with astonishment hear God chanting a hymn of joy.”
주님의 회복된 백성으로 살아라
그럼 이제 우리는 하나님과 회복되었고, 하나님이 우리 위에 기뻐하길 원한다면 어떻게 살아가야 할까요? 성경에서 하나님과 함께 기뻐하는 백성들은 겸손하고 겸허해야 합니다(V.12), 정직해야 합니다(V.13). 우리는 두려워할 필요가 없습니다. 17절에서 "너의 하나님 여호와가 너의 가운데에 계시니 그는 구원을 베푸실 전능자이시라 그가 너로 말미암아 기쁨을 이기지 못하시며 너를 잠잠히 사랑하시며 너로 말미암아 즐거이 부르며 기뻐하시리라 하리라." 라고 나와 있습니다. 심판이 있을 것이지만 겸손하고 인내심 있는 자에게 하나님은 기쁨으로 회복해 줄 것입니다.
예수 그리스도를 통해 용서를 받았고, 수치가 제거되었으며, 변화가 일어나고, 주님의 존재를 알 수 있으며, 보호가 제공되며, 이 모든 것이 찬양을 가져오고 있습니다. 동시에 주님의 백성으로 우리는 겸손하고 순종적이며 의로운 삶을 살아가고 그의 사랑과 보호의 힘을 즐길 것으로 기대됩니다.
Live as the Lord’s restored people
Then since we are now restored with God and if we want God rejoicing over us. How should we live? In the scriptures, the people who are rejoicing with God should be meek and humble (V.12), honest (V.13). There is no need for us to be scared. In Verse 17: “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing. “ There will be judgement, but for those who are humble and patient, God will restore them with joy.
What the Lord describes in Zephaniah 3:9-20 is not only some futuristic event but it is also something that the Lord continues to do through us.
Through Jesus Christ, forgiveness has been experienced, shame has been removed, transformation is taking place, the presence of the Lord is known, protection is provided, and all of this brings praise. And at the same time, as Lord’s people, we are expected to live humble, obedient righteous lives and enjoy is loving presence and protective power.
궁극적으로 우리는 항상 정직하고 겸손하게 살 수 없기 때문에 하나님의 은혜에 의존해야 합니다. "하나님의 은혜가 있으니 우리는 마음대로 살아도 된다"고 말할 수 없습니다. 하나님은 우리가 완벽한 존재가 아닌 것을 알고 계십니다. 우리는 하나님을 사랑하도록 프로그래밍된 로봇이 아닙니다. 어떤 날은 하나님을 100% 사랑하고, 어떤 날은 50%만 사랑할 수도 있지만, 하나님은 오늘도 "괜찮아. 나에게 기댄다면 항상 너와 함께 있을 것이다"라고 말하고 계십니다. 그러니 우리는 하나님의 임재 안에 거하는것을 매일 매일 도전하는 우리가 되길 원합니다. 하나님에게 무슨 말을 해야 할지, 무슨 기도를 해야 할지 모르더라도 하나님은 우리가 하나님 안에 거하시는 것을 원하십니다. 우리가 하나님 안에 거하면 하나님은 우리를 완전히 회복케 하실 줄 믿습니다. 예수님이 다시 오시는 그 날까지, 하나님의 임재에 푹 빠지며, 하나님을 신뢰하고 기뻐하는 우리가 되길 소망합니다.
Ultimately, because we cannot always be honest, humble and obedient, we must rely on the grace of God. We can’t just say, “We have the grace of God so let’s live however we want.” God knows we are not perfect beings. We are not robots who are programmed to love God. Some days we might love God 100% and some days we might love God 50% but God is telling us today “it’s OK. Just abide in me and I will be with you always.” So let us practice immersing in His presence. Even if you don’t know what to tell God, what to pray about, God wants us to just be soaked in his presence. And when we are soaked in his presence, God will completely restore each and every one of us. So until the day of the Lord when Jesus Christ returns, let us as a church be in His presence and trust in Him always, and rejoice over him at all times.
