20240822 [새벽묵상] 여러분은 우리의 영광이요, 기쁨입니다 | For You are our Glory and Joy (살전/1 Thess 2:13-20)



2:13 이러므로 우리가 하나님께 끊임없이 감사함은 너희가 우리에게 들은 바 하나님의 말씀을 받을 때에 사람의 말로 받지 아니하고 하나님의 말씀으로 받음이니 진실로 그러하도다 이 말씀이 또한 너희 믿는 자 가운데에서 역사하느니라

2:14 형제들아 너희가 그리스도 예수 안에서 유대에 있는 하나님의 교회들을 본받은 자 되었으니 그들이 유대인에게 고난을 받음과 같이 너희도 너희 동족에게서 동일한 고난을 받았느니라

2:15 유대인은 주 예수와 선지자들을 죽이고 우리를 쫓아내고 하나님을 기쁘시게 하지 아니하고 모든 사람에게 대적이 되어

2:16 우리가 이방인에게 말하여 구원 받게 함을 그들이 금하여 자기 죄를 항상 채우매 노하심이 끝까지 그들에게 임하였느니라

13 And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe. 14 For you, brothers and sisters, became imitators of God’s churches in Judea, which are in Christ Jesus: You suffered from your own people the same things those churches suffered from the Jews 15 who killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets and also drove us out. They displease God and are hostile to everyone 16 in their effort to keep us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. In this way they always heap up their sins to the limit. The wrath of God has come upon them at last.

[Paul’s Longing to See the Thessalonians]

17 But, brothers and sisters, when we were orphaned by being separated from you for a short time (in person, not in thought), out of our intense longing we made every effort to see you. 18 For we wanted to come to you—certainly I, Paul, did, again and again—but Satan blocked our way. 19 For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you? 20 Indeed, you are our glory and joy.


 

                  여러분 오늘의 말씀은 하나님에 대해 어떻게 이야기하고 있습니까? 또 사람에 대해 어떻게 이야기하고 있습니까? 어제 저희는 복음을 전하는 사람은 어떻게 전해야 하는지 참된 목자란 어떤 목자인지 이야기 했었습니다. 사람을 기쁘게 하려하지 않고 하나님을 기쁘시게하는 목자에 대해 이야기 했었죠. 겸손하며 어머니가 자녀를 사랑하듯 성도를 사랑하고 아버지가 자기 자녀를 훈육하듯 성도를 권면하는 사역자에 대해서 이야기했습니다. 그리고 그 사역자가 복음을 전하는 것은 무엇 때문입니까? 성도로 하여금 하나님께 걸맞는 삶을 사실 수 있도록, 당신의 나라와 당신의 영광에 이르게 하시려고 여러분들을 부르시는 하나님께 걸맞는 삶을 사시게 하려 함이라고 말씀드렸습니다. 복음을 전하는 사람에게 이보다 더 큰 기쁨은 없겠지요. 오늘의 말씀도 그 연장선상에 있습니다. 어제가 목자에 대한 이야기였다면 오늘은 성도가 주인공인 말씀입니다. 바울 사도께서 데살로니가 교회에 대하여 이렇게 말씀하십니다. 20절 “너희는 우리의 영광이요 기쁨이니라.” 여러분, 여러분께서는 여러분이 사역자의 영광이요 기쁨되시는 줄 믿으십니까? 오늘 우리 함께 말씀을 통해 목자의 영광이 되며 기쁨되는 성도에 대해 나누기 원합니다.


Dear everyone, how does today's message speak about God? And how does it speak about people? Yesterday, we talked about how those who spread the gospel should convey it and what a true shepherd is like. We talked about shepherds who do not try to please people but please God. We discussed ministers who are humble, love the believers like a mother loves her children, and admonish them like a father disciplines his children. And why do these ministers preach the gospel? We said it was so that believers can live lives worthy of God, who calls you into His kingdom and glory. There is no greater joy for those who preach the gospel. Today's message is a continuation of this. If yesterday was about the shepherd, today's message is about the believers. The Apostle Paul says this about the Thessalonian church in verse 20: "For you are our glory and joy." Do you believe that you are the glory and joy of your ministers? Today, we want to share about believers who become the glory and joy of their shepherds through the Word.



                  목자의 영광이 되며 기쁨되는 성도란 이것입니다. 사역자가 전하는 하나님의 말씀을 들을 때에 그것을 하나님의 말씀으로 받는 성도입니다. 13절 함께 보시겠습니다. “이러므로 우리가 하나님께 끊임없이 감사함은 너희가 우리에게 들은 바 하나님의 말씀을 받을 때에 사람의 말로 받지 아니하고 하나님의 말씀으로 받음이니 진실로 그러하도다 이 말씀이 또한 너희 믿는 자 가운데에서 역사하느니라.” 무어라고 하십니까? 너희가 우리에게 들은 바 하나님의 말씀을 받을 때에 사람의 말로 받지 아니하고 하나님의 말씀으로 받음이니. 여러분 설교자가 앞에 서서 여러분에게 말씀을 전할 때에 그것은 설교자의 말입니까? 하나님의 말씀입니까? 만약 하나님의 말씀이라면 설교자가 하는 모든 말이 전부 다 하나님의 말씀일까요? 아마도 아닐 것입니다. 설교자도 인간이기에 최선을 다해 말씀을 공부하고 하나님의 성경 말씀을 전하려고 노력하겠지만 그 안에는 설교자 즉 사람의 말도 섞여있을 것입니다. 그러나 그렇다 하더라도 분명 그가 전하는 말씀에는 하나님의 말씀 또한 담겨 있겠지요. 아마도 그래서 사도 바울께서는 우리가 “하나님의 말씀”을 너희에게 전할 때에 라고 능동형으로 말씀하지 않으시고 “너희가 우리에게 들은 바, 하나님의 말씀을 받을 때에” 즉 사역자의 설교를 듣고 그 안에서 하나님의 말씀을 받을 때에 라고 수동형으로 말씀하셨는지도 모릅니다.


Believers who become the glory and joy of their shepherds are those who receive the Word of God that the minister preaches as God's Word, not as human words. Let's look at verse 13 together: "And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe." What does it say? When you received the word of God that you heard from us, you accepted it not as human words, but as the word of God. When the preacher stands before you and delivers the message, is it the preacher's words or God's words? If it's God's Word, is everything the preacher says entirely God's Word? Probably not. Since the preacher is also human, they will try their best to study the Word and convey God's biblical message, but there will also be human words mixed in. However, even so, the message they deliver will surely contain God's Word as well.

Perhaps that's why the Apostle Paul doesn't say actively "when we delivered God's Word to you," but passively "when you received the word of God that you heard from us" - that is, when you heard the minister's sermon and received God's Word from it.



그렇다면 사도 바울께서 오늘 말씀에서 강조하기 원하시는 것은 오히려 설교자보다 설교를 받는 성도들의 마음 밭이 아닌가 싶습니다. 설교자의 말씀도 중요하지만 말씀을 받는 성도들의 마음 밭이 더 중요한 것이지요. 그 마음 밭에 대해 이야기합니다. 바로 다음 부분입니다. “사람의 말로 받지 아니하고 하나님의 말씀으로 받음이니.” 설교자의 말씀을 사람의 말로 여기는 것이 아니라 하나님의 말씀으로 받았다 라고 합니다. 이 말씀은 단순히 설교자의 설교를 그대로 하나님의 말씀으로 믿었다는 말씀이 아닙니다. 그것은 맹신이지요. 어제 말씀드렸던 동기가 불순하고 속이는 목자를 만나게 되면 그런 분들은 매우 위험해집니다. 우리는 지혜로워야 합니다. 그래서 설교자의 말씀을 하나님의 말씀으로 받는 데에는 과정이 있습니다. 그 좋은 예가 사도행전에 있는데요 사도행전 17장 11절 말씀에 보니 이런 말씀이 있습니다. “말씀을 간절한 마음으로 받아들이고 바울이 말한 것이 사실인지 알아보려고 날마다 성경을 찾아보았습니다.” 여러분 이것이 성도의 마음가짐인 것입니다. 이것이 성도의 마음 밭인 것입니다. 말씀을 간절한 마음으로 받아들이시되 그것이 사실인지 날마다 여러분께서도 직접 성경을 찾아보아야 하시는 것입니다. 그리고 그 말씀이 여러분에게 하나님의 말씀으로 받아들여지실 때. 그 때, 뭐라고 말씀하십니까? 13절, “진실로 그러하도다.” 아멘. 그렇게 여러분께서 설교자의 말씀을 듣고 직접 성경을 찾아보시며 그 말씀을 하나님의 말씀으로 받으실 때 진정 그 말씀이 여러분을 향한 하나님의 말씀이 되는 것입니다. 그러면 무슨 일이 일어납니까? 여러분이 하나님의 말씀으로 믿으신 그 말씀이 여러분 가운데 하나님의 일을 하시는 것이에요. “진실로 그러하도다 이 말씀이 또한 너희 믿는 자 가운데에서 역사하느니라.” 여러분 이런 데살로니가 교회의 성도들을 향해 바울이 무어라고 말합니까? 하나님께 끊임없이 감사하대요. “우리가 하나님께 끊임없이 감사함은” 여러분 목자에게 끊임없이 감사한 성도가 되시길 축원합니다. 목자의 영광이 되며 기쁨되는 성도되시기를 축원합니다. 사람의 말로 받지 아니하고 하나님의 말씀으로 받는 성도되시기를 축원합니다.


If so, what Paul wants to emphasize in today's message seems to be the heart of the believers receiving the sermon rather than the preacher. While the preacher's words are important, the heart of the believers receiving the Word is even more important. He talks about that heart. It's the next part: "you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God." It says they didn't regard the preacher's words as human words but received them as God's Word. This doesn't simply mean they blindly believed the preacher's sermon as God's Word. That would be blind faith. As we discussed yesterday, if you encounter a shepherd with impure motives who deceives, such people become very dangerous. We must be wise. Therefore, there is a process to receiving the preacher's words as God's Word. A good example of this is in Acts, where Acts 17:11 says: "They received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true." This is the attitude of believers. This is the heart of believers. You should receive the Word with eagerness, but you should also personally search the Scriptures daily to see if it is true. And when that Word is received by you as God's Word, what does it say then? Verse 13: "which is indeed at work in you who believe." Amen. When you hear the preacher's words, search the Scriptures yourself, and receive that Word as God's Word, it truly becomes God's Word for you. Then what happens? That Word which you believed as God's Word works God's work among you. "which is indeed at work in you who believe." What does Paul say to these Thessalonian believers? He gives endless thanks to God. "And we also thank God continually." I pray that you will be believers who give endless thanks to your shepherd. I pray that you will be believers who become the glory and joy of your shepherd. I pray that you will be believers who receive it not as human words, but as the word of God.



두번째, 목자에게 영광이요 기쁨이 되는 성도는 고난 가운데 있을 때에도 그 믿음을 잃지 않는 성도입니다. 여러분 우리가 초대 교회를 말 할 때에 우리는 초대교회가 경험했던 성령님의 역사와 사도들을 통한 기적과 표적, 그리고 성도들의 헌신과 기도 또 나눔과 같은 긍정적인 부분에 촛점을 맞추어 이야기합니다. 초대교회로 돌아가자 이런 표어나 말씀 많이 들어보셨을 것입니다. 그러나 초대교회는 같은 민족인 유대인들로부터 끊임없는 핍박과 고난을 받았습니다. 유대인들의 핍박은 특히 심하여서 오늘 본문 말씀 15절 16절에도 나와있는 것처럼 유대인이 아닌 이방인에게 복음을 전하는 것조차 금지하고 방해 할 정도였습니다. 바울 사도가 데살로니가 교회를 떠나야 했던 것도 사실 유대인들이 핍박하였기 때문입니다. 그런데 오늘 바울 사도께서는 이 데살로니가 교회가 바로 그 초대교회의 본받은 자 되었다라고 합니다. 그리고 그 본을 받았다 라고 말할 때 초대교회의 다른 모습이 아닌 고난 받음을 특정 지어서 본 받았다 라고 말씀합니다. 14절 “형제들아 너희가 그리스도 예수 안에서 유대에 있는 하나님의 교회들을 본받은 자 되었으니 그들이 유대인들에게 고난을 받음과 같이 너희도 너희 동족에게서 동일한 고난을 받았느니라” 여러분 데살로니가 전서는 유독 순교적 죽임을 당한 사람들에 대한 설명이 자세히 들어있습니다. 데살로니가 교회가 순교자에 대한 이해가 필요할 만큼 심각한 핍박과 고난 가운데 있었다는 뜻이겠지요. 그렇기에 사도 바울은 데살로니가 교회를 격려하기 위해 교회에 몇 번이나 방문하기를 시도했습니다만 대적의 방해로 그러지 못했습니다. 17절 “형제들아 우리가 잠시 너희를 떠난 것은 얼굴이요 마음은 아니니 너희 얼굴 보기를 열정으로 더욱 힘썼노라18절 그러므로 나 바울은 한 번 두 번 너희에게 가고자 하였으나 사탄이 우리를 막았도다


Secondly, believers who are glory and joy to their shepherd are those who do not lose their faith even in the midst of suffering. When we talk about the early church, we focus on the positive aspects like the work of the Holy Spirit, the miracles and signs through the apostles, and the devotion, prayer, and sharing of the believers. You've probably heard slogans or messages like "Let's return to the early church." However, the early church faced constant persecution and suffering from their fellow Jews. The persecution from the Jews was particularly severe, to the extent that, as mentioned in verses 15 and 16 of today's text, they even tried to prevent and hinder the preaching of the gospel to non-Jews. The reason Paul had to leave the Thessalonian church was actually because of persecution from the Jews. But today, Paul says that this Thessalonian church has become an imitator of the early church. And when he says they imitated, he specifically mentions that they imitated the suffering, not other aspects of the early church. Verse 14: "For you, brothers and sisters, became imitators of God's churches in Judea, which are in Christ Jesus: You suffered from your own people the same things those churches suffered from the Jews." The first letter to the Thessalonians uniquely contains detailed descriptions of those who suffered martyrdom. This probably means that the Thessalonian church was in such serious persecution and suffering that they needed to understand martyrdom. Therefore, Paul tried to visit the Thessalonian church several times to encourage them, but was prevented by opposition. Verses 17-18: "But, brothers and sisters, when we were orphaned by being separated from you for a short time (in person, not in thought), out of our intense longing we made every effort to see you. For we wanted to come to you—certainly I, Paul, did, again and again—but Satan blocked our way."



여러분, 고난 가운데 있는 성도가 어떻게 목자에게 영광이요 기쁨이 될 수 있을까요? 심지어 오늘 말씀에서 사도바울은 고난 가운데 있는 데살로니가 교회가 다시 오실 주님 앞에 소망과 기쁨과 자랑의 면류관이라고 하십니다. 이런 말씀을 하시는 이유는 고난이 곧 우리에게 연단이 되기 때문입니다. 고난 가운데 계실지라도 믿음을 잃지 않으신다면 그것이 여러분에게 연단이 되어 모든 더러운 불순물들과 다른 생각들이 정결케되고 여러분은 하나님의 때에 정금같이 나아오시게 되는 것입니다. 그러므로 목자는 지금 고난을 받고 있는 여러분의 모습이 아니라 다시 오실 주님 앞에 서게 될 여러분의 정금같은 모습을 소망하며 기뻐하며 자랑하는 것입니다. 그렇기 때문에 여러분이 주님 강림하실 때 목자의 소망과 기쁨과 자랑의 면류관 되는 것입니다. 여러분이 목자의 영광이요 기쁨 되는 것입니다.


                  말씀을 맺습니다. 여러분, 마음 밭이 귀하여 하나님의 말씀을 받을 때에 사람의 말로 받지 않고 하나님의 말씀으로 받으시는 여러분. 고난 가운데 있을지라도 이것이 하나님의 연단인 줄을 알고 믿음을 굳게 지키며 정금과 같이 주님의 때를 기다리는 성도 여러분. 여러분은 주님 앞에 우리의 소망이며 기쁨이며 자랑의 면류관인 것입니다. 제가 더 무슨 말씀을 드릴 수 있겠습니까? 바로 여러분이 우리의 영광이요 기쁨이시며 하나님의 영광이며 기쁨이신 줄 믿습니다.

 

How can believers in suffering become glory and joy to their shepherd? In today's passage, Paul even says that the suffering Thessalonian church is their hope, joy, and crown of boasting before the Lord when He comes. The reason he says this is because suffering becomes refinement for us. If you do not lose your faith even in the midst of suffering, it becomes refinement for you, purifying all impurities and other thoughts, and you will come out like pure gold in God's time. Therefore, the shepherd rejoices and boasts not in your current suffering appearance, but in hope of your pure gold-like appearance that will stand before the Lord when He comes again. That is why you become the shepherd's hope, joy, and crown of boasting when the Lord comes. You become the shepherd's glory and joy.

 

To conclude, dear believers with precious hearts who receive God's Word not as human words but as God's Word when you hear it. Dear believers who, even in the midst of suffering, know this is God's refinement and firmly keep your faith, waiting for the Lord's time like pure gold. You are our hope, joy, and crown of boasting before the Lord. What more can I say? I believe that you are our glory and joy, and God's glory and joy.
