19 “Because of your great compassion you did not abandon them in the wilderness. By day the pillar of cloud did not fail to guide them on their path, nor the pillar of fire by night to shine on the way they were to take. 20 You gave your good Spirit to instruct them. You did not withhold your manna from their mouths, and you gave them water for their thirst. 21 For forty years you sustained them in the wilderness; they lacked nothing, their clothes did not wear out nor did their feet become swollen.
9:22 또 나라들과 족속들을 그들에게 각각 나누어 주시매 그들이 시혼의 땅 곧 헤스본 왕의 땅과 바산 왕 옥의 땅을 차지하였나이다
9:23 주께서 그들의 자손을 하늘의 별 같이 많게 하시고 전에 그들의 열조에게 들어가서 차지하라고 말씀하신 땅으로 인도하여 이르게 하셨으므로
9:24 그 자손이 들어가서 땅을 차지하되 주께서 그 땅 가나안 주민들이 그들 앞에 복종하게 하실 때에 가나안 사람들과 그들의 왕들과 본토 여러 족속들을 그들의 손에 넘겨 임의로 행하게 하시매
9:25 그들이 견고한 성읍들과 기름진 땅을 점령하고 모든 아름다운 물건이 가득한 집과 판 우물과 포도원과 감람원과 허다한 과목을 차지하여 배불리 먹어 살찌고 주의 큰 복을 즐겼사오나
22 “You gave them kingdoms and nations, allotting to them even the remotest frontiers. They took over the country of Sihon king of Heshbon and the country of Og king of Bashan. 23 You made their children as numerous as the stars in the sky, and you brought them into the land that you told their parents to enter and possess. 24 Their children went in and took possession of the land. You subdued before them the Canaanites, who lived in the land; you gave the Canaanites into their hands, along with their kings and the peoples of the land, to deal with them as they pleased. 25 They captured fortified cities and fertile land; they took possession of houses filled with all kinds of good things, wells already dug, vineyards, olive groves and fruit trees in abundance. They ate to the full and were well-nourished; they reveled in your great goodness.
9:26 그들은 순종하지 아니하고 주를 거역하며 주의 율법을 등지고 주께로 돌아오기를 권면하는 선지자들을 죽여 주를 심히 모독하였나이다
9:27 그러므로 주께서 그들을 대적의 손에 넘기사 그들이 곤고를 당하게 하시매 그들이 환난을 당하여 주께 부르짖을 때에 주께서 하늘에서 들으시고 주의 크신 긍휼로 그들에게 구원자들을 주어 그들을 대적의 손에서 구원하셨거늘
26 “But they were disobedient and rebelled against you; they turned their backs on your law. They killed your prophets, who had warned them in order to turn them back to you; they committed awful blasphemies. 27 So you delivered them into the hands of their enemies, who oppressed them. But when they were oppressed they cried out to you. From heaven you heard them, and in your great compassion you gave them deliverers, who rescued them from the hand of their enemies.
9:28 그들이 평강을 얻은 후에 다시 주 앞에서 악을 행하므로 주께서 그들을 원수들의 손에 버려 두사 원수들에게 지배를 당하게 하시다가 그들이 돌이켜 주께 부르짖으매 주께서 하늘에서 들으시고 여러 번 주의 긍휼로 건져내시고
28 “But as soon as they were at rest, they again did what was evil in your sight. Then you abandoned them to the hand of their enemies so that they ruled over them. And when they cried out to you again, you heard from heaven, and in your compassion you delivered them time after time.
9:29 다시 주의 율법을 복종하게 하시려고 그들에게 경계하셨으나 그들이 교만하여 사람이 준행하면 그 가운데에서 삶을 얻는 주의 계명을 듣지 아니하며 주의 규례를 범하여 고집하는 어깨를 내밀며 목을 굳게 하여 듣지 아니하였나이다
9:30 그러나 주께서 그들을 여러 해 동안 참으시고 또 주의 선지자들을 통하여 주의 영으로 그들을 경계하시되 그들이 듣지 아니하므로 열방 사람들의 손에 넘기시고도
9:31 주의 크신 긍휼로 그들을 아주 멸하지 아니하시며 버리지도 아니하셨사오니 주는 은혜로우시고 불쌍히 여기시는 하나님이심이니이다
29 “You warned them in order to turn them back to your law, but they became arrogant and disobeyed your commands. They sinned against your ordinances, of which you said, ‘The person who obeys them will live by them.’ Stubbornly they turned their backs on you, became stiff-necked and refused to listen. 30 For many years you were patient with them. By your Spirit you warned them through your prophets. Yet they paid no attention, so you gave them into the hands of the neighboring peoples. 31 But in your great mercy you did not put an end to them or abandon them, for you are a gracious and merciful God.
여러분 오늘의 본문 말씀은 하나님에 대해 어떻게 이야기하고 있습니까? 또 사람에 대해, 인간에 대해서는 뭐라고 말씀하고 계십니까? 여러분 어제의 말씀을 통하여 우리는 하나님께서 용서하시는 하나님이심을 알았습니다. 하나님께서 이스라엘 백성이 애굽에서 고난받는 것을 보시고 그들의 부르짖음을 들으시고 이적과 기사를 베푸사 그들을 애굽에서 구원하셨습니다. 바다를 갈라지게 하시고 애굽의 병사들을 깊은 물에 던져 그들이 다시는 추적할 수 없도록 애굽으로부터 완전히 구원하셨습니다. 그뿐만이 아닙니다. 하나님께서 이들을 구름기둥과 불기둥으로 인도하시고 보호하셨고, 그들에게 강림하사 말씀을 주시고 정직한 규례와 진정한 율법과 선한 율례와 계명을 그들에게 주셨습니다. 또 그들이 배고프고 목말라하자 하늘에서 양식을 주시고 반석에서 물을 주시며 그들의 필요를 채워주셨습니다. 그리고 하나님께서 옛적에 주시겠다고 약속하신 그 땅을 이제 가서 차지하라고 말씀하셨습니다. 약속을 지키시는 것이지요. 그러나 그 모든 하나님의 구원의 역사를 직접 경험하고 보았음에도 불구하고 그들은 교만하여 명령을 듣지 아니하고 스스로 종 되었던 땅으로 되돌아가려 하였습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고. 성경은 말씀하고 계십니다. 그러나 주께서는 용서하는 하나님이시라. 그들을 버리지 아니하셨나이다. 그렇다면 응당 그들은 무엇을 하여야 하겠습니까? 하나님께 되돌아와야죠. 그런데 어제 말씀은 이렇게 끝이 납니다. 18절 말씀에 또 그들이 오히려 우상숭배하여 “하나님을 크게 모독하였사오나” 그리고 오늘 말씀이 19절입니다. 첫 시작이 이렇습니다. “주께서는 주의 크신 긍휼로 그들을 광야에 버리지 아니하시고” 여러분 이것이 오늘 말씀입니다. 오늘 말씀은 이스라엘 백성들이 40년 광야생활을 하고 가나안 땅을 정복하고 열왕기상하의 왕정시대를 거치는 동안 끊임없이 주님께 거역했던 모습을 이야기합니다. 그러나 그때마다, 그때마다 주님은 주의 크신 긍휼로 그들을 버리지 아니하십니다. 이는 31절 말씀에 “주는 은혜로우시고 불쌍히 여기시는 하나님이”시기 때문입니다. 우리 주님은 은혜로우시고 불쌍히 여기시는 하나님이십니다.
What does today's scripture say about God? And what does it say about people, about humans? Through yesterday's scripture, we learned that God is a forgiving God. God saw the Israelites suffering in Egypt, heard their cries, performed signs and wonders, and saved them from Egypt. He parted the sea and threw the Egyptian soldiers into the deep waters, completely saving them from Egypt so they could no longer be pursued. But that's not all. God guided and protected them with a pillar of cloud and a pillar of fire, descended to them to give them His word, and gave them just and right laws, true laws, and good decrees and commands. Also, when they were hungry and thirsty, He gave them food from heaven and water from the rock, meeting their needs. And God told them to go and possess the land He had promised to give them long ago. He was keeping His promise. However, despite directly experiencing and seeing all of God's history of salvation, they became arrogant and did not obey the commands, trying to return to the land where they were slaves. Nevertheless. The Bible says. But you are a forgiving God. You did not abandon them. Then what should they have done? They should have returned to God. But yesterday's scripture ends like this. Verse 18 says that they even worshipped idols and "committed awful blasphemies." And today's scripture is verse 19. It begins like this: "Because of your great compassion you did not abandon them in the wilderness." This is today's message. Today's scripture talks about how the Israelites continuously rebelled against the Lord during their 40 years in the wilderness, their conquest of Canaan, and throughout the monarchy period of 1 and 2 Kings. But each time, each time, the Lord does not abandon them because of His great compassion. This is because, as verse 31 says, "you are a gracious and compassionate God." Our Lord is a gracious and compassionate God.
오늘 본문에 나타난 하나님의 은혜로우심. 우리 함께 보기 원합니다. 여러분 앞에서 말씀드렸던 것처럼 출애굽을 통한 하나님의 구원의 역사를 다 보고도 하나님께 순종하지 않았고 심지어는 그들 눈앞에 구름기둥과 불기둥이 뻔히 있었음에도 불구하고 금송아지를 부어 만들어 그것이 그들을 애굽에서 구원한 신이라 하여 하나님을 크게 모독하였습니다. 이것은 하나님에 대한 직접적인 도전이지요. 명령을 불복종 하는 정도가 아니라 하나님을 부정하는 것 아닙니까? 그러나 그럼에도 불구하고 19절에 보니 “주께서는 주의 크신 긍휼로 그들을 광야에 버리지 아니하”셨다고 합니다. 계속 구름기둥과 불기둥으로 그들을 떠나지 아니하고 길을 인도하며 그들이 갈 길을 비추셨다고 합니다. 20절에 보니 그들에게 선한 영을 주셔서 그들을 다시 가르치십니다. 만나로 먹을 것을 주시고 물을 주십니다. 21절을 보니 40년동안 그 광야에서 이들을 기르셨다고 합니다. 보살피셨다 합니다. 어떻게요? 부족함이 없게요. “그 옷이 해어지지 아니하였고 발이 부르트지 아니하였사오며” 옷이 해어지지 않은 것은 무엇입니까? 하나님께서 공급하셨다는 뜻입니다. 발이 부르트지 아니하였다. 여러분 광야를 떠돌았습니다. 무려 40년을요. 발이 부르트지 아니하였답니다. 무슨 뜻입니까? 하나님께서 이들을 군대 행군하듯이 몰아치신 것이 아닙니다. 이들을 부모가 자식을 기르듯이 애지중지 보살피신 것입니다. 40년 광야생활 하는 동안 주님을 크게 모독하였던 이들을 주님께서는 단순히 버리지 않으신 것만이 아니라 오히려 품 안에 품으시고 자식처럼 기르셨습니다. 주님의 은혜입니다.
Let's look together at God's graciousness as shown in today's text. As I mentioned earlier, even after seeing all of God's history of salvation through the Exodus, they did not obey God, and even though the pillar of cloud and pillar of fire were clearly visible before their eyes, they made a golden calf and said it was the god that saved them from Egypt, greatly blaspheming God. This is a direct challenge to God, isn't it? Isn't it not just disobeying orders, but denying God? But despite this, verse 19 says, "Because of your great compassion you did not abandon them in the wilderness." It says that the pillar of cloud and pillar of fire did not leave them, but continued to guide their way and light their path. Verse 20 says that He gave them His good Spirit to instruct them. He gave them manna to eat and water to drink. Verse 21 says that for forty years He sustained them in the wilderness. He cared for them. How? So they lacked nothing. "Their clothes did not wear out and their feet did not swell." What does it mean that their clothes did not wear out? It means God provided for them. Their feet did not swell. They wandered in the wilderness. For 40 years. Their feet did not swell. What does this mean? God did not drive them like an army on a march. He cared for them preciously, like a parent raising a child. During the 40 years in the wilderness, the Lord did not simply not abandon those who had greatly blasphemed Him, but rather embraced them in His arms and raised them like His children. This is the Lord's grace.
22절부터 보니 그들로 약속하셨던 가나안 땅을 정복하게 하십니다. 23절 “전에 그들의 열조에게 들어가서 차지하라고 말씀하신 땅으로 인도하여 이르게 하셨으므로” 24절 “그 자손이 들어가서 땅을 차지하되 주께서 그 땅 가나안 주민들이 그들 앞에 복종하게 하실 때에” 25절 "그들이 견고한 성읍과 기름진 땅을 점령하고 모든 아름다운 물건이 가득한 집과 판 우물과 포도원과 감람원과 허다한 과목을 차지하여 배불리 먹어 살찌고 주의 큰 복을 즐겼”다라고 되어있습니다. 이들이 이 가나안 땅을 정복할 명분이 있습니까? 자격이 있습니까? 그들은 오히려 하나님께서 그 땅을 들어가서 차지하라 하실 때에 스스로 종 되었던 애굽 땅으로 돌아가려 하지 않았습니까? 그들에게 무슨 자격이 있어 이 가나안 땅을 정복하고 “배불리 먹어 살찌고 주의 큰 복을” 누릴 수 있는 것입니까? 그들은 아무 자격 없습니다. 다만 하나님께서 아브라함에게 하신 약속을 지키실 뿐입니다. 이것은 약속을 지키시는 주님의 의로우심이며 자격없는 이들에게 부어주시는 주님의 은혜인 것입니다. 주님을 크게 모독하여 버림받아 마땅한 이들이 주님의 은혜로 40년 광야생활동안 부족함이 없었다고 합니다. 하나님의 명령을 거역하여 스스로 도망치려 했던 가나안 땅에 들어갈 수 있었던 것은 무엇입니까? 그 땅에서 배불리 먹어 살찌고 주의 큰 복을 즐길 수 있었던 것 무엇 때문입니까? 주님의 순전한 은혜 때문입니다. 주의 크신 긍휼 때문입니다.
From verse 22, we see that He allowed them to conquer the promised land of Canaan. Verse 23 says, "You brought them in to possess the land you had told their ancestors to enter and take possession of." Verse 24, "Their children went in and took possession of the land. You subdued before them the Canaanites, who lived in the land;" Verse 25, "They captured fortified cities and fertile land; they took possession of houses filled with all kinds of good things, wells already dug, vineyards, olive groves and fruit trees in abundance. They ate to the full and were well-nourished; they reveled in your great goodness." Do these people have any justification for conquering this land of Canaan? Are they qualified? Didn't they try to return to Egypt, where they were slaves, when God told them to go in and take possession of the land? What qualifications do they have to conquer this land of Canaan and "eat to the full and be well-nourished; they reveled in your great goodness"? They have no qualifications at all. God is simply keeping the promise He made to Abraham. This is the Lord's righteousness in keeping His promise and the Lord's grace poured out on those who are unqualified. Those who should have been abandoned for greatly blaspheming the Lord lacked nothing during their 40 years in the wilderness because of the Lord's grace. How were they able to enter the land of Canaan, which they had rebelled against God's command and tried to run away from? Why were they able to eat to the full, be well-nourished, and revel in the Lord's great goodness in that land? It's because of the Lord's pure grace. It's because of the Lord's great compassion.
그런 은혜를 받은 이들이 무엇을 합니까? 26절입니다. “그들은 순종하지 아니하고 주를 거역하며 주의 율법을 등지고 주께로 돌아오기를 권면하는 선지자들을 죽여 주를 심히 모독하였”습니다. 이들은 이미 우상숭배로 주님을 크게 모욕하였던 전례가 있습니다. 이번에야말로 이들은 진멸되어야 마땅하지 않겠습니까? 주님의 말씀을 대언하는 선지자들을 죽인 것은 곧 주님께 직접적으로 도전한 것과 마찬가지 아니겠습니까? 심지어 오늘 말씀에서도 이를 가르켜 주님을 심히 모독하였다고 합니다. 그러면 어떻게 되어야 합니까? 죽어야지요. 주님을 모독하는 자 살 수 있습니까? 없지요. 그러나 주님 그렇게 하지 않으십니다. 27절에 보니 “그러므로 주께서 그들을 대적의 손에 넘기사 그들이 곤고를 당하게 하시매.” 주님 이들을 진멸하지 않으십니다. 대적의 손에 넘기사 곤고만 당하게 하신대요. 여러분 이들이 곤고를 당하는 것은 누구 때문입니까? 그들 자신 때문입니다. 그렇다면 이들은 하나님께 구원받을 자격이 있습니까? 없습니다. 다 스스로 자초한 일이에요. 그런데요. 이상한 일이 일어납니다. 말씀을 보니 “그들이 환난을 당하여 주께 부르짖을 때에 주께서 하늘에서 들으시고 주의 크신 긍휼로 그들에게 구원자들을 주어 그들을 대적의 손에서 구원하셨거늘.” 이게 무슨 말입니까. 그들이 마땅히 죽어야 했는데 하나님의 은혜로 환난만 당하고 있습니다. 그런데 그 환난 가운데서도 주님께 부르짖었더니 주님께서 뭐라구요? 주의 크신 긍휼로. 주의 크신 긍휼로 그들을 구원하셨습니다.
What do those who have received such grace do? Verse 26: "But they were disobedient and rebelled against you; they turned their backs on your law. They killed your prophets, who had warned them in order to turn them back to you; they committed awful blasphemies." These people already had a precedent of greatly insulting the Lord through idol worship. Shouldn't they be completely destroyed this time? Isn't killing the prophets who spoke the Lord's words equivalent to directly challenging the Lord Himself? Even in today's scripture, it says they committed awful blasphemies against the Lord. So what should happen? They should die, right? Can those who blaspheme the Lord live? No. But the Lord doesn't do that. Verse 27 says, "So you delivered them into the hands of their enemies, who oppressed them." The Lord doesn't destroy them completely. He only delivers them into the hands of their enemies to be oppressed. Whose fault is it that they are oppressed? It's their own fault. Then do they deserve to be saved by God? No, they don't. It's all self-inflicted. But. Something strange happens. The scripture says, "But when they were oppressed they cried out to you. From heaven you heard them, and in your great compassion you gave them deliverers, who rescued them from the hand of their enemies." What does this mean? They should have died, but by God's grace, they only suffered oppression. But even in that oppression, when they cried out to the Lord, what did the Lord do? By His great compassion. By His great compassion, He saved them.
그런데 28절에 “그들이 평강을 얻은 후에 다시,” “다시 주 앞에 악을 행하므로” 믿을 수 없죠. 도대체 뭘 어떻게 해야 하는 겁니까? 어떻게 해야 알아 듣는 겁니까? 용서하시는 하나님이시라고 말씀드렸지만 도대체 얼마나 참으셔야 하시는 겁니까? 여러분이라면 얼마나 참으시겠습니까? 오늘 말씀에 “다시 주 앞에서 악을 행하므로 주께서 그들을 원수들의 손에 버려두사 원수들에게 지배를 당하게 하시다가” 여기까지는 좋아요. 당연히 그래야죠. 이것도 너무 가벼운 형벌이에요. 그런데 또. “그들이 돌이켜 주께 부르짖으매 주께서. 하늘에서. 들으시고. 여러번 주의 긍휼로 건져내시고” 뭐라구요? 여러번. 한번. 두번. 세번. 네번. 다섯번. 여섯번. 아니라 여러번이요. 셀 수 없을 만큼. 주의 긍휼로 건져내시고. 아니 도대체 왜 그들을 건져내시는 겁니까? 하나님 잘못이 아니라니깐요. 그들은 구원받아야 할 이유가 없어요. 자격도 없어요. 명분도 없어요. 다 스스로 자초한 일이에요. 그러면 벌 달게 받고 죽어야 할 것 아닙니까. 그런데 왜 하나님께서는 그들을 여러 번 건져내십니까? 도대체 왜? 30절에 보니 “주께서 그들을 여러 해 동안 참으시고”라고 합니다. 여러분 하나님께서는 열왕기 상하에 있는 이스라엘 왕국 전체의 기간 동안 이들을 참으셨습니다. 그리고 그 참으시는 기간 동안 끊임없이 선지자들을 보내어 그들에게 말씀하셨습니다. 그러나 그들은 듣지 않았습니다. 그런데도 왜? 하나님께서는 그들을 진멸하실 수 있는 충분한 명분이 있으셨음에도 불구하고 아니 그들을 진멸하셨어야만 함에도 불구하고 그들을 계속 건져내 주시는 걸까요? 하나님은 공의의 하나님이 아니셨습니까? 해답은 여기 있습니다. 30-31절 입니다. “그들이 듣지 아니하므로 열방 사람들의 손에 넘기시고도 주의 크신 긍휼로 그들을 아주 멸하지 아니하시며 버리지도 아니하셨사오니.” “주는 은혜로우시고 불쌍히 여기시는 하나님이심이니이다.” “주는 은혜로우시고 불쌍히 여기시는 하나님이심이니이다.” “주는 은혜로우시고 불쌍히 여기시는 하나님이심이니이다.” 여러분 이 말씀이 여러분 안에 깊이 뿌리내리기를 소원합니다. 주는 은혜로우시고 우리를 불쌍히 여기시는 하나님이신 것입니다.
But verse 28 says, "But as soon as they were at rest, they again did what was evil in your sight." Unbelievable, isn't it? What on earth do they need to do? How can they understand? I said God is forgiving, but how long does He have to endure? If you were God, how long would you endure? Today's scripture says, "Then you abandoned them to the hand of their enemies so that they ruled over them." Up to here is fine. That's how it should be. Even this punishment is too light. But again. "And when they cried out to you again, you heard from heaven, and in your compassion you delivered them time after time." What? Time after time. Once. Twice. Three times. Four times. Five times. Six times. No, time after time. Countless times. You delivered them in your compassion. Why on earth do you keep delivering them? It's not God's fault. They have no reason to be saved. They have no qualifications. They have no justification. It's all self-inflicted. Then shouldn't they accept their punishment and die? But why does God deliver them time after time? Why? Verse 30 says, "For many years you were patient with them." God was patient with them throughout the entire period of the Israelite kingdom in 1 and 2 Kings. And during that period of patience, He continually sent prophets to speak to them. But they did not listen. So why? Why does God continue to deliver them even though He had sufficient justification to destroy them completely, or rather, even though He should have destroyed them completely? Isn't God a God of justice? The answer is here. Verses 30-31: "By your Spirit you warned them through your prophets. Yet they paid no attention, so you gave them into the hands of the neighboring peoples. But in your great mercy you did not put an end to them or abandon them, for you are a gracious and compassionate God." "For you are a gracious and compassionate God." "For you are a gracious and compassionate God." I hope these words take deep root in you. The Lord is a gracious God who has compassion on us.
말씀을 맺습니다. 하나님은 은혜로우신 하나님이십니다. 하나님을 크게 모독하였던 이스라엘 백성들은 하나님의 은혜로 40년 광야 생활 동안 부족한 것이 없었고 그들이 들어갈 자격이 없는 가나안 땅에 들어가 배불리 먹어 살찌고 주의 큰 복을 즐겼습니다. 그러나 그런 은혜에도 불구하고 그들은 하나님을 다시 심히 모독합니다. 그런 이들을 주님께서는 여러해 동안 참으십니다. 또 그들이 스스로 자초한 형벌 가운데 있을 때에도 그들이 하나님께 부르짖을 때마다 주님은 구원받을 자격이 없는 그들을 여러번 주의 긍휼로 건져내십니다. 이것은 왜 입니까? 우리 주님이 우리를 불쌍히 여기시는 하나님이시기 때문입니다. 우리를 포기 않으시고 버려두지 않으시는 주님. 은혜로우시고 우리를 불쌍히 여기시는 주님. 그분이 우리의 하나님이십니다. 기도하시겠습니다.
I will conclude the message. God is a gracious God. The Israelites who greatly blasphemed God lacked nothing during their 40 years in the wilderness by God's grace, and they entered the land of Canaan, which they did not deserve to enter, and ate to the full, were well-nourished, and reveled in the Lord's great goodness. But despite such grace, they again severely blaspheme God. The Lord is patient with such people for many years. And even when they are in the punishment they brought upon themselves, whenever they cry out to God, the Lord delivers them in His compassion time after time, even though they don't deserve to be saved.
