11:24 모세가 나가서 여호와의 말씀을 백성에게 알리고 백성의 장로 칠십 인을 모아 장막에 둘러 세우매

11:25 여호와께서 구름 가운데 강림하사 모세에게 말씀하시고 그에게 임한 영을 칠십 장로에게도 임하게 하시니 영이 임하신 때에 그들이 예언을 하다가 다시는 하지 아니하였더라

24 So Moses went out and told the people what the Lord had said. He brought together seventy of their elders and had them stand around the tent. 25 Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke with him, and he took some of the power of the Spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied—but did not do so again.

11:26 그 기명된 자 중 엘닷이라 하는 자와 메닷이라 하는 자 두 사람이 진영에 머물고 장막에 나아가지 아니하였으나 그들에게도 영이 임하였으므로 진영에서 예언한지라

11:27 한 소년이 달려와서 모세에게 전하여 이르되 엘닷과 메닷이 진중에서 예언하나이다 하매

26 However, two men, whose names were Eldad and Medad, had remained in the camp. They were listed among the elders, but did not go out to the tent. Yet the Spirit also rested on them, and they prophesied in the camp. 27 A young man ran and told Moses, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.”

11:28 택한 자 중 한 사람 곧 모세를 섬기는 눈의 아들 여호수아가 말하여 이르되 내 주 모세여 그들을 말리소서

28 Joshua son of Nun, who had been Moses’ aide since youth, spoke up and said, “Moses, my lord, stop them!”

11:29 모세가 그에게 이르되 네가 나를 두고 시기하느냐 여호와께서 그의 영을 그의 모든 백성에게 주사 다 선지자가 되게 하시기를 원하노라

11:30 모세와 이스라엘 장로들이 진중으로 돌아왔더라

29 But Moses replied, “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put his Spirit on them!” 30 Then Moses and the elders of Israel returned to the camp.

11:31 바람이 여호와에게서 나와 바다에서부터 메추라기를 몰아 진영 곁 이쪽 저쪽 곧 진영 사방으로 각기 하룻길 되는 지면 위 두 규빗쯤에 내리게 한지라

11:32 백성이 일어나 그 날 종일 종야와 그 이튿날 종일토록 메추라기를 모으니 적게 모은 자도 열 호멜이라 그들이 자기들을 위하여 진영 사면에 펴 두었더라

11:33 고기가 아직 이 사이에 있어 씹히기 전에 여호와께서 백성에게 대하여 진노하사 심히 큰 재앙으로 치셨으므로

11:34 그 곳 이름을 기브롯 핫다아와라 불렀으니 욕심을 낸 백성을 거기 장사함이었더라

31 Now a wind went out from the Lord and drove quail in from the sea. It scattered them up to two cubits deep all around the camp, as far as a day’s walk in any direction. 32 All that day and night and all the next day the people went out and gathered quail. No one gathered less than ten homers. Then they spread them out all around the camp. 33 But while the meat was still between their teeth and before it could be consumed, the anger of the Lord burned against the people, and he struck them with a severe plague. 34 Therefore the place was named Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had craved other food.

11:35 백성이 기브릇 핫다아와에서 행진하여 하세롯에 이르러 거기 거하니라

35 From Kibroth Hattaavah the people traveled to Hazeroth and stayed there.

                  어제 우리는 모세가 하나님께 나아와 나 혼자서는 이 모든 백성을 감당할 수 없사오니 나를 죽여달라고 간청하는 모습을 볼 수 있었습니다. 모세가 이렇게 힘들어 했던 것은 백성의 온 종족들이 고기를 달라고 각기 자기 장막 문에서 우는 소리를 모세가 들었기 때문이었지요. 그런 모세의 기도에 하나님께서는 두가지를 약속하십니다. 첫째로 모세와 함께 백성의 짐을 담당할 70인의 장로를 세워 모세와 같은 영을 임하게 하시겠다. 둘째로 하나님께서 내일 고기를 주시겠다. 보병만 60만명인 이스라엘 자손들을 한달동안 고기를 먹이신다니 믿지 못하는 모세에게 하나님께서는 이제 내 말이 네게 응하는 여부를 네가 보리라고 말씀하십니다. 그렇습니다. 오늘의 본문은 하나님께서 하신 그 말씀이 이들에게 그대로 이루어지는 것을 보여줍니다. 하나님의 말씀은 어떤 상황에도 반드시 이루어지는 것입니다. 그러나 우리가 주의해야 할 것은 하나님의 말씀이 이루어질 때에 그것은 누군가에게는 기도응답이지만 누군가에게는 심판이며 누군가에게는 경고라는 것입니다. 자 오늘 본문을 통해 하나님의 말씀이 어떻게 이루어지는지 함께 보시겠습니다.

Yesterday, we saw how Moses approached God and pleaded, "I cannot carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me. If this is how you are going to treat me, please go ahead and kill me." Moses was overwhelmed because he heard the people of every family wailing at the entrance to their tents, demanding meat to eat. In response to Moses' prayer, God promised two things: First, He would appoint 70 elders to share Moses' burden by placing the same Spirit on them that was on Moses. Second, God would provide meat the next day. When Moses couldn't believe that God would feed meat to 600,000 men plus women and children for an entire month, God replied, "Is the LORD's arm too short? Now you will see whether or not what I say will come true for you."

Indeed, today's passage shows how God's words were fulfilled exactly as promised. God's Word will always come to pass, regardless of circumstances. But we must recognize that when God's Word is fulfilled, it may be an answer to prayer for some, judgment for others, and a warning for still others. Let's examine through today's text how God's Word comes to pass.

                  첫번째 기도응답입니다. 책임이 막중하여 혼자서는 이 백성을 감당 할 수 없다고 기도하였던 모세에게 장로 70인을 세우사 모세와 같은 영을 임하게 하십니다. 24절을 보니 70인 장로들을 회막에 둘러 세웠는데 25절에 하나님께서 강림하셔서 모세와 같은 영을 그들에게 임하게 하시지요. 모세가 기도하였던 그 기도를 하나님께서 들어주신 것입니다. 그런데 26절을 보니 엘닷과 메닷 두 사람이 회막에 나아오지 않고 자기 진영에 머물렀다고 합니다. 이상하지요. 왜 그랬을까? 왜 회막에 나오지 않았을까? 그런데 더 이상한 것은 이 두사람은 자기 진영에 머물러 있었는데 그들에게도 영이 임하였다는 것입니다. 회막으로 나아온 장로들도 예언을 하고 자기 천막에 머물러 있던 이 두 사람도 예언을 합니다. 우리가 이것으로 알 수 있는 것은 하나님이 하시고자 하시면 무엇이든 할 수 있다는 것입니다. 우리 눈에는 회막에 나오지도 않은 이들이 어떻게 하나님의 영을 받을 수 있었는지 의아하지요. 그것은 우리 뿐만이 아닙니다. 오늘 본문에 나오는 이들이 다 같은 생각이었어요. 그러나 그럼에도 불구하고 하나님께서 이들에게 영을 부어주시고 예언을 하게 하신 것은 바로 하나님께서 모세에게 그것을 약속하셨기 때문입니다. 하나님께서 직접 말씀하셨어요. 23절. “여호와의 손이 짧으냐? 네가 이제 내 말이 네게 응하는 여부를 보리라.” 하나님께서 말씀하신 것은 어떤 상황에서도 반드시 이루어지는 것입니다.

First: An Answer to Prayer

Moses had prayed that the responsibility was too great to carry alone, and God appointed 70 elders and placed His Spirit on them. Verse 24 tells us that the 70 elders were gathered around the Tent of Meeting, and in verse 25, the Lord came down and placed the same Spirit that was on Moses upon them. God answered Moses' prayer.

However, verse 26 mentions that Eldad and Medad, two men who remained in the camp instead of going to the Tent of Meeting, also received the Spirit. Isn't that strange? Why didn't they come to the Tent? Even more surprising, while they stayed in their tents, the Spirit also came upon them. Both the elders who came to the Tent and these two men who remained behind prophesied.

This shows us that God can do whatever He wishes. We might wonder how men who didn't even come to the Tent could receive God's Spirit. We're not alone in this confusion—the people in our passage felt the same way. Yet despite this, God poured out His Spirit on these men and caused them to prophesy because He had promised this to Moses. God had declared in verse 23: "Is the LORD's arm too short? Now you will see whether what I say will come true for you." What God speaks will certainly come to pass, no matter the circumstances.

                  자, 아직 의문이 안 풀리셨겠지요. 두번째 포인트를 잡으면서 좀 더 설명하겠습니다. 하나님의 말씀은 반드시 이루어지는데 이 때 이것은 누군가에게는 경고입니다. 자, 엘닷과 메닷이 대체 무슨 일을 한 것일까요? 24절을 보면 “모세가 나가서 여호와의 말씀을 백성에게 알리고” 라고 합니다. 백성들에게 하나님께서 70인의 장로를 세우는 것과 고기를 주실 것을 약속하심을 알렸겠지요. 그러면 이 70인의 장로에 뽑힌 사람이면 모세의 말에 순종해야 할 것 아닙니까? 백성들이 다 아는데 70인중에 두명이 빠지면 백성들 앞에서 모세는 뭐가 되는 겁니까? 모세의 리더쉽에 대한 심각한 반역이지요. 게다가 26절을 보면 시작이 이렇습니다. “그 기명된 자 중.” 자 이게 무슨 말인가? 16절에서 하나님께서 모세에게 이렇게 말씀하십니다. “이스라엘 노인 중에 네가 알기로 백성의 장로와 지도자가 될 만한 자 70명을 모아 내게 데리고 와 회막에 이르러 거기서 너와 함께 서게 하라” 하나님께서 모세에게 니가 70명의 믿을 만한 사람 직접 뽑으라고 하신거에요. 하나님이 고르신게 아니에요. 다른 말로 하면 이들은 모세의 신임을 받고 있던 사람들이었던 것입니다. 그런데 바로 그들이 모세의 말을 듣지 않고 자기 진영에 남아있던 것입니다. 이들은 하나님은 회막에 계시니 회막에 가지 않으면 이 일이 그르칠 것이다라고 생각한 것이에요. 그러나 하나님의 말씀은 어떤 상황에도 반드시 이루어집니다. 그래서 그들이 상상도 하지 못했던 일이 벌어집니다. 자신들의 진영에서 그들은 예언을 하게 되는 것이지요. 이들은 죽어 마땅했지만 죽음을 면했습니다. 이는 하나님께서 모세의 기도응답을 이루시기 위함이었지요. 그러므로 그들의 계산을 뛰어넘는 하나님의 역사는 그들에게 큰 경고의 메시지였을 것입니다.

Second: A Warning

God's Word always comes to pass, but for some, it serves as a warning. What exactly did Eldad and Medad do? Verse 24 says, "Moses went out and told the people what the LORD had said." Moses had informed the people about God's promise to appoint 70 elders and provide meat. Anyone chosen as one of those 70 elders should have obeyed Moses, right? If two of the seventy were missing while everyone was watching, what would that do to Moses' leadership? It was a serious rebellion against Moses' authority.

Furthermore, verse 26 begins with "they were among those listed." What does this mean? In verse 16, God told Moses: "Bring me seventy of Israel's elders who are known to you as leaders and officials among the people. Have them come to the tent of meeting, that they may stand there with you." God told Moses to personally select 70 trustworthy men—these weren't chosen by God but by Moses. In other words, these were men who had Moses' trust. Yet these very men disobeyed Moses and remained in their tents.

They probably thought, "Since God is at the Tent of Meeting, if we don't go there, this plan will fail." But God's Word comes to pass regardless of circumstances. So something they never imagined happened—they began to prophesy right in their camp. They deserved punishment but were spared because God wanted to fulfill His promise to Moses. God's work, which exceeded their calculations, served as a powerful warning to them.

                  세번째, 하나님의 말씀은 반드시 이루어지는데 누군가에게는 이것이 심판입니다. 하나님께서 모세에게 약속하신 고기를 주십니다. 31절을 보니 “진영 사방으로 각기 하룻길 되는 지면 위 두 규빗쯤에 내리게 한지라” 라고 하십니다. 대략 1m 높이로 메추라기들이 내려온 것입니다. 32절을 보니 백성들이 이틀을 하루 종일 메추라기를 모으는데 적게 모은자가 열 호멜이랍니다. 대략 2200리터나 되는 양입니다. 이게 적게 모은 사람이래요. “그들이 자기들을 위하여 진영 사면에 펴두었더라.” 그들이 진영 사면에 펴두었더라 이렇게만 적어도 되었을 텐데 “자기들을 위하여”라는 말을 굳이 썼던 이유는 바로 이들의 고기에 대한 탐욕을 보여주는 것입니다. 이러한 이들의 탐욕은 심판으로 귀결이 납니다. 33절입니다. “고기가 아직 이 사이에 있어 씹히기 전에 여호와께서 백성에게 대하여 진노하사 심히 큰 재앙으로 치셨으므로” 34절을 보니 “욕심을 낸 백성을 거기 장사함이었더라” 자 하나님의 말씀은 어떤상황에도 이루어져서 그들에게 약속하셨던 고기를 주십니다. 하지만 하나님을 멸시하였던 이들은 이틀동안 메추라기를 2,200리터가 넘는 양을 잡아서 자기들 먹으려고 다 일일히 손질해서 펴두었다가 이제 겨우 고기를 먹으려고 입에 넣고 씹기도 전에 하나님의 재앙을 받아 죽어버리고 맙니다. 하나님께서 이들이 탐욕으로 구하던 것을 주셨습니다. 그러나 하나님을 멸시한 이들은 그것을 보기는 보아도 그것을 씹고 삼켜 누리지 못하는 것입니다. 그들은 그 욕심 가운데서 하나님의 심판을 받아 죽어버리고 맙니다. 그러나 희망이 있는 것은 34절의 말씀이 “그 욕심을 낸 그 백성을 거기 장사함이었더라” 즉 하나님께서 무차별적으로 사람들을 치셨던 것이 아니라 욕심을 낸 그 사람들만을 치신 것입니다. 그래서 하나님께서 말씀을 이루실 때 누군가에게는 이것이 심판인 것이지요. 그리고 그런 심판을 옆에서 지켜본 사람들에게는 하나님의 말씀이 이루어진 것이 바로 그들을 향한 경고임을 깨달았을 것입니다.

Third: Judgment

God's Word always comes to pass, but for some, it brings judgment. God provided the meat He had promised Moses. Verse 31 says, "a wind went out from the LORD and drove quail in from the sea. It scattered them up to two cubits deep all around the camp, as far as a day's walk in any direction." The quail were piled about three feet high!

Verse 32 tells us that people gathered quail all that day and night and all the next day. The person who gathered least collected ten homers—about 2,200 liters! And this was the person who gathered the least! "Then they spread them out all around the camp." The text specifically adds "for themselves," highlighting their greed for meat. This greed led to judgment.

Verse 33 says, "But while the meat was still between their teeth and before it could be consumed, the anger of the LORD burned against the people, and he struck them with a severe plague." Verse 34 continues, "Therefore the place was named Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had craved other food."

God's Word was fulfilled—He provided the promised meat. But those who had despised God gathered over 2,200 liters of quail over two days, prepared it all for themselves, and just as they were about to eat it—before they could even chew it—God's judgment fell, and they died. God gave them what they craved in their greed, but those who despised Him saw it yet couldn't enjoy it. They died under God's judgment in the midst of their greed.

Yet there is hope in verse 34, which states, "there they buried the people who had craved other food." God didn't strike people indiscriminately but only those consumed by greed. So when God fulfills His Word, it brings judgment to some. And those who witnessed this judgment surely recognized it as a warning to them as well.

                  말씀을 맺습니다. 하나님의 말씀은 어떤 상황에서도 반드시 이루어집니다. 그러나 그 말씀이 이루어지는 것이 누군가에게는 기도응답이고, 누군가에게는 심판이며, 누군가에게는 경고임을 우리는 기억해야 할 것입니다. 오늘 말씀을 통해 우리는 하나님께 능치 못할 일이 없으심을 보았습니다. 우리가 하나님께 나아와 모세처럼 우리의 마음을 쏟아놓는다면 하나님께서는 우리의 기도에 응답하실 것입니다. 우리가 하나님께 반역을 하거나 하나님을 거절한다면 우리는 하나님의 경고와 심판이 우리가 생각하지 못하는 방법으로 우리에게 임할 것을 기억해야 할 것입니다. 하나님을 존중하십시오. 능치 못함 없으신 하나님께서 여러분의 기도를 들으실 것입니다. 기도하시겠습니다.

Conclusion

God's Word will surely come to pass in any situation. But we must remember that the fulfillment of His Word is an answer to prayer for some, judgment for others, and a warning for still others. Through today's passage, we've seen that nothing is impossible for God. If we come before God and pour out our hearts like Moses did, God will answer our prayers.

If we rebel against God or reject Him, we must remember that His warning and judgment may come in ways we never expected. Honor God. The all-powerful God will hear your prayers. Let us pray.
